Top 10 Baking Tips

These are my Top 10 Baking Tips

  1. Baking is a science so measure ingredients correctly
  2. Always use good quality ingredients
  3. Never mix the metric with imperial measurements
  4. Measure out all your ingredients first before you start, that way you will know what you’ve added or missed out
  5. Sifting the flour will help to add air into your baking
  6. If using Butter, always soften to room temperature, as this will give you a lighter result
  7. Always line your cake tins, with either baking parchment or by greasing and coating with flour
  8. Don’t open the oven door to check your baking until at least two thirds of the required time is complete, as this could result in an uneven end result
  9. Test your cakes with a skewer before removing from the oven. If the skewer does not come out clean then return your cakes back into the oven for a few more mins until done.
  10. Clean your oven regularly to prevent any smells from contaminating your baking

  1. Sorry for being pedantic but 10 should be ‘Clean your oven regularly’. All great tips and I was pleasantly surprised to find I do them all anyway (well the majority of the time- no one is perfect). As a science student and an amateur baker, I especially agree with the first one!

    Thanks for sharing 🙂
